I’m Thijmen, a fourth-year Communication and Multimedia Design student at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. My journey into the world of digital design began without any prior experience in design or tech, but with a strong desire to rediscover the creative side of myself. This drive led me to CMD, where I have embraced the extensive breadth of the curriculum to explore and cultivate my interests across various design and technology disciplines.

Who I Am Today
 

Now, as I near the completion of my studies, I find myself a jack of all trades in design and technology, truly a digital 'duizendpoot' or 'thousand-footer'. Whether it's UI/UX, Information or web/abb design or creating engaging front-end experiences, I feel confident in my ability to tackle diverse challenges. My broad skill set enables me to adapt and thrive in various settings, making me a valuable asset to any creative team.

Creative Clicks
2024 / 2025

At Creative Clicks, my internship centers around front-end design, where I'm involved in transforming design concepts into functional website elements. This role merges technical skills with creative vision, enabling me to contribute directly to enhancing the digital customer experience.

At Creative Clicks, I'm working on updating and improving the look and function of services across various projects. My role involves making design changes that make our websites more attractive and easier to use.

Tweakers 
2023

 

At Tweakers, I focused on UX design and frontend development, conducting A/B tests and improving interface elements to enhance user engagement. My role allowed me to bridge design and technology, contributing directly to user-focused enhancements.

My internship involved refining key features and improving usability on the Tweakers platform. I engaged in UX testing and frontend updates that significantly improved user interactions and satisfaction.

What is the next step?

As I advance through my studies at CMD, I consider myself a digital 'duizendpoot' or 'thousand-footer,' well-versed in a variety of disciplines within design and technology. My education has equipped me with a wide array of skills across UI/UX design, front-end development, and back-end systems. While I possess a strong foundation in many areas, I am still on the path to defining a specialized focus. This breadth of knowledge allows me to understand and contribute to various aspects of digital projects, making me a flexible and adaptable member of any creative team. I am enthusiastic about continuing to refine my skills and zero in on an area where I can make the most impact.

Amsterdam University of Applied Science
2021-2025

At CMD Amsterdam, I am immersed in a program dedicated to designing and developing digital interactive products and services. This education focuses on human-centered design, preparing us to create solutions that perfectly align with user needs. My coursework covers the essentials of interaction design, visual design, and front-end development, equipping me with a holistic view of digital product creation.

Throughout my studies, I've taken opportunities to specialize in both the technical and visual aspects of digital design. Engaging with projects such as web/app UI/UX design, product design, and comprehensive front-end and back-end development, I've shaped a versatile skill set that bridges design and technology effectively.

RMIT University Vietnam
2024

During my six-month study at RMIT Vietnam, I pursued an enriching path of self-development and international experience, diving into diverse subjects like cybersecurity, psychology, and photography. This unique study abroad opportunity was an integral part of my CMD bachelor's program, enhancing my global perspective and interdisciplinary knowledge.

At RMIT Vietnam, I embraced a broad learning spectrum, studying cybersecurity to understand digital protection, psychology to grasp user behavior, and photography to capture and express visual narratives. Each course contributed to a deeper understanding of my core studies in communication and multimedia design, reinforcing my skills with a global context.

MBO College Westpoort
2020-2021

At MBO College Westpoort, I pursued a Retail Management degree that equipped me with crucial skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, and operational management. This program emphasized practical, hands-on learning, where I developed abilities in sales, team management, and creating a positive work environment, all essential for running a successful retail operation.

My journey in Retail Management was transformative, not only educationally but also personally. Starting the course as a step to change my life, I excelled by completing the typically 2-3 year program in just one year with an average grade of 9, all during the challenging COVID years. This experience fortified my leadership capabilities and prepared me for handling real-world retail challenges with resilience and confidence.

MBO College Amstelland
2015-2018

At MBO College Amstelland, I engaged in the Sport & Gezondheid program, preparing to become a sport and health coordinator. This training allowed me to support individuals in improving their athletic skills and overall well-being, whether through rehabilitation activities or general fitness coaching. The curriculum was focused on practical skills in organizing sports activities and guiding diverse groups towards healthier lifestyles.

Throughout the three-year program, I gained extensive experience in teaching, organizing events, and personal coaching. I developed the ability to tailor sports and health activities to various needs from children to the elderly and those with disabilities. This comprehensive education not only honed my practical skills but also prepared me for diverse career opportunities in wellness centers, fitness centers, and more specialized healthcare settings.
